Abstract
517,977. Night safes. HOLDEN, W. F. C., and CHUBB & SONS LOCK & SAFE CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1938, No. 23809. [Class 18] A night safe comprises a drawer c slidably mounted in a casing a and fitted with a two part reception plate p, q, for the article to be deposited. When the drawer is open the part p slopes downwardly from the front of the drawer and the part q, which is hinged to the inner extremity of the part p, rests on the bottom of the casing as shown. As the drawer is closed two lugs h pivoted in the sides of the drawer and secured to a plate g ride up a ramp m on the casing and tilt the plate g clockwise, thereby tilting the plates p, q, to approximately horizontal and vertical positions respectively, so that the article is shot_to the back of the safe and drops through an opening.r. A guard plate s, pivotally mounted in the sides of the drawer, has a rib t which, as the drawer is closed, runs along the top of a pivoted latch 4, tilts the latch clockwise and drops into a channel 7, 8, the guard plate being then inclined downwardly. If the article has not passed to the open end r it is jammed between the plates s and q; the rib t then cannot rise to the position shown and the drawer cannot be fully opened. A rocker 11 pivoted on the casing prevents return of the rib along the top of the latch 4.
