1 Claim.

This invention relates to what may be termed an anti-theft device and consists in the provision of a panel adapted to form a wall, partition or the like of a cage, as for example a cashiers cage in a bank, and suitably equipped to effectively guard against theft on the part of one outside the cage posing, as for example, as a customer,

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character above mentioned which will be suitable for use not only in conjunction with banks, but also on railway mail cars, cashier booths and the like.

The invention together with its objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring to the drawings by reference numerals it will be seen that the invention consists in the provision of a panel II suitable to constitute a wall, partition or'the like of a cashiers booth or similar structure. On each side I2, I3 thereof, the panel is provided with a ledge or shelf I4 mounted at a suitable elevation. Suitably mounted above each shelf II and adjacent thereto is an inclined min-or I5.- At its upper end the panel is provided with a transverse open ing I6 and disposed in operative position to the opening I6, on the sides I2, I 3 of the panel are oppositely inclined mirrors 1 I hinged to the panel H as at I8. Suitable means for securing the mirrors I! at the desired angular adjustment are provided and indicated generally by the reference numeral I9. From the foregoing it will be seen that a person standing at one side of the panel, for example, the side I2, can by looking in the mirror I5 see the person at the opposite side of the panel, the last named person being thus seen due to the reflection caused by the arrangement of mirrors I5 and I1 at opposite sides of the panel.

At the opening 20 suitable shields 23 are provided on the sides I2, I! of the panel and are of such a construction, and so arranged relative to the tray 2| as to cooperate therewith for preventing any would be hold-up" man from placing a firearm in position for firing through the aperture 20.

To permit persons on opposite sides of the panel I I to converse with one another without danger to the cashier there is also provided above the opening a narrow horizontal slot 24, and Ir what may be termed speaking tubes 25, of the cross sectional shape clearly shown in Figure 2 are mounted on the sides I2, I3 of the panel and have integral upwardly extending flanges or attaching portions 25a disposed opposite the slot 20 24 in a manner effective to prevent shooting through the tubes 25, and thus further safeguarding the cashier.

To accommodate larger and more bunglesome articles than can be accommodated by the tray 2I there is provided on the side I3 of the panel a receptacle 26 that is open at each end, and at the end thereof secured to the panel II registering with a suitable opening 27 provided in the panel. Vertically slidable closures 28, 29 are pro- 30 vided for the ends of the casing or receptacle 26 and these slides 28, 29 operate in suitable guide grooves 30 provided on the walls of the casing 26.

Secured in sliding position on the top of the receptacle or container 26 through the medium r of straps 3i is a suitable knob equipped bolt 32 that has the ends thereof adapted to engage in openings 33, 34 provided in the upper ends of the closures 26, 29 in' a manner clearly shown in Figure 5. For limiting sliding movement of the 40 bolt 32 the same, adjacent each end thereof, is provided with a suitable laterally extending pin 35. As shown in Figure 5 when one end of the bolt 32 is projected through the opening 31 in the closure 29 the latter is thereby locked in position against being raised vertically while the closure 28 which is readily accessible to the person on the side I3 of the panel can be easily raised by him so as to permit a person at the side I2 of the panel to place within the casing 26 such article as desired. It will be further noted that by this arrangement when one of the closures, for example the closure 28 is in raised p0sition the retraction of the bolt 32 cannot be made so that the closure 26 must remain in locked and closed condition as long as the closure 28 is in raised position, and vice versa.

' It will thus be seen that in accordance with this invention a person, such as for example a cashier or the like at the side 13 of the panelmay readily see and communicate with the person at the side I2 0! the panel and that money, passbooks, and the like may be readily passed between the persons without any danger whatever to the cashier.

Upon occasion, as for example where the panel II is not of sufilcient height as to have the opening I6 out of reach of a man of normal stature, a shield, such as for example a shield 36 may be employed, and the same, as shown in Figure 2 is mounted on the upper end of the panel II on the side I! thereof which is of course "the customersslde and this shield completely receives therein the mirror H on the side l2 of the panel and will effectively guard against anyone being able to place a pistol in proper position relative to the opening l6 for the purpose of firing upon the cashier or other person at the side l3 of the panel.

While I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that I do not wish to limit myseli to the precise details 0'! construction, combination and arrangement of elements as herein illustrated and described, other than may be necessary to meet the requirements 01 the prior art.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

In a device of the character described, a panel provided on each side thereof adjacent the lower. end with a counter and a mirror supported by the panel, and inclined downwardly toward the counter, said panel adjacent its upper end being provided with an opening, mirrors hinged to the panel at opposite sides thereoi adjacent the upper edge of the opening and being inclined downwardly, and brace means connected with the second named mirrors for supporting the same at the desired angle of adjustment.
