Abstract

290,595. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges., (Assignees of Siemens-Schuckertwerke Ges.). May 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Switch mechanisms interlocking with lids in which the switch is contained within a gas- and water-tight casing have a removable mechanical coupling member between the external operating spindle and the switch shaft, this member being attached to the cover and arranged so that it may be removed only when the switch is in the open position. As shown in Fig. 1, the lid 21 of the casing 12 carries on its underside a depending arm 22 provided with a bearing for a coupling member 14 between the operating shaft 13 and the switch shaft 16. The member 14 is formed at each end with flattened projections which slide into slots in the adjacent ends of the shafts 18, 16 so that when the handle 11 is turned through 90‹ to bring the bridging members 15 into contact position the cover 21 is held in position by the coupling member 14. In an alternative construction the ends of the shafts 13, 16 may terminate in flattened projections adapted to cooperate with slots in the ends of the coupling member 14. The casing is made gas- and watertight by clamping suitable packing members between the cover and the upper edge of the casing walls.
