Abstract
289,937. Hill, W. J. Feb. 2, 1927. Fastenings. - The hinged hasps c or fastenings of trunks and cases of variable capacity are each pivoted to the slidable part b of a telescopic attachment member, the parts of which are secured in an adjusted position by an external rack-like link device that is adapted to engage with a fixed detent a<3>, the link being pivotally connected at one end to the member c so as to be angularly displaceable with the hinged member. As shown in Fig. 1, the link d is formed as a rectangular frame having corrugations for engaging with the detent a<3>, one end of the link being slidably connected with the hasp and the other end being attached to the end of the member b. Accordto Fig. 4, the link e is a channel-shaped member formed with teeth in the side walls to engage the detent. The member b carries a spring tongue f that moves over a rack a<4> on the outer casing a to ensure the engagement of the detent with the rack teeth on the link when the members b, c are in the aligned position. Accord. ing to other modifications, the rack teeth on the link may be ratchet teeth whereby, when in engagement with the detent, the device may be collapsed but not extended; the link e may also be in two parts hinged together or made telescopic.
