Abstract

Sheet-apparatus; delivery apparatus; gripper mechanism.-Sheets are fed to and delivered from platen machines by means of rotary suction devices having the form of a sleeve 4, Fig. 3, rotating on a hollow spindle 1 in constant communication with a vacuum and fitted with a radial passage 6 which registers successively with radial passages 5 in flanges 3 integral with the sleeve 4. While the platen 10 is in its open position, Fig. 1, the top sheet of pile 1 is fed to the platen by the successive action of the passages 5 on the sheet, and the sheet is finally held to the platen by means of a pivoted gripper 12 carried by an adjustable slide on the platen 10. The gripper 12 pulls the sheet off the printing-bed 11, the sheet being held to the gripper 12 by suction which is cut off when the gripper moves to cause the unprinted side of the sheet to contact with a vacuum delivery roller 3a mounted on a support 19, the delivery roller being constructed similarly to the feed roller 3. The delivery roll 3 passes the sheet to a further delivery device 20 which delivers the sheet printed side uppermost to the stack 21.
