Abstract
852,576. Addressing machines; copying documents. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. Feb. 8, 1957 [Feb. 16, 1956; Sept. 15, 1956], No. 4374/57. Classes 100(1) and 100(2) A rotary duplicating machine comprises means for feeding sheets to be printed from, or to be printed upon, from piles to a printing drum of the machine, the sheets having two material layers, each feeding means having a feed member movable in a to and fro manner in dependence on the rotation of the printing drum and arranged for acting within the surface of the sheet on one of its layers of material to effect feeding thereof, the other layer acting as a screen to prevent the feed member from simultaneously acting on a subsequent sheet. Feeding and delivering sheets:- As' shown in Fig. 1. cards 14 carrying texts to be printed are stacked in a feed box 49 and are fed through an opening 52 therein by a feed member 50 which engages recesses provided in the cards. The feed member 50 is reciprocated by means of a cam 42 on the printing drum 43 and linkage 44, 45, 46 rotatably mounted at 47, and which can be rendered inoperative by a cam lever 81. The cards are fed round the drum 43 by pairs of spring-pressed rollers 53, 54 and are guided bv a guide 56 to the printing station between the drum 43 and a counter pressure roller 57. Envelopes to be printed upon are stacked in a feed box 78 and fed through a slot 99 (Fig. 6) by a recinrocating feed member 67 which engages the flap of the envelone. The member 67 is operated from a cam 58 nn the drum 43 through linkage 59. 61, 62, and is rotatably arranged. The link 59 may be rendered inoperative by a cam lever 82. A spring 96 presses the member 67 onto the adjacent side 25a of an envelope 25 and a roller 97 controlled by a guide rail 98 ensures that the member 67 engages the flap of the envelope and passes through the slot 99. By means of rollers 68, 69, the envelopes are fed to the printing station. After printing a stripping device 71 of sheet metal controlled by a lever 72 and a cam 73 on the printing drum separates the card from the enevelope, the latter falling into a receiver 74. The cards are moved by a pair of rollers 75 across a guide sheet 76 into a collecting box 77. The feed boxes and receivers are laterally adjustable. The envelopes 25 are curved transversely by rails 100, 101 (Fig. 7), arranged laterally on the feed box 78, under the action of a weighted covering plate. A front plate 102, defining the exit slot 99, carries projections 103 to correspond to the curvature of the envelopes. Printing surfaces:- In addition to the recesses for feeding, the cards are also provided with recesses whereby they are gripped by grippers 109. (Fig. 10) on the printing drum 43, these grippers being operated from a fixed cam 118 by linkage 110, 111, 112 and 114. Instead of feeding a series of printing devices a plurality of prints may be made by one card by moving the gripper cam 118 (Fig. 4) out of range of the lever 114. This is effected by rotating a lever 119 and a pawl 120. Bearing projections slidably engage in grooves 123 of a bush 124. The bearing projections are fixed on the pawl 120 so that on rotation of the lever 119, the bush 124 with the cam 118 fixed thereto is displaced axially out of the range of the lever 114.
