Abstract

289,074. Bertauld, H. April 22, 1927, [Convention date]. Securing wheels on shafts; shaft couplings.- In order to prevent damage by stones &c. to fodder-storing machines comprises a cutting- device and a fan &c. for forcing the cut fodder into a silo &c., both driven from the same source, the cuttting-device is connected to the fandriving mechanism by a spring-loaded cone or other slipping coupling. Forage is fed by a conveyer 4 to a cutting-device 5 and is delivered to the silo duct (not shown) by a fan 3 keyed to a belt driven-shaft 2. The gear train actuating the cutter ? is driven from a shaft 6 and gearwheel 7, which meshes with a pinion 8, loose on the shaft 2 and provided with a male or female cone 9 coacting with a mating cone 11 feathered to the shaft 2, a hard rubber &c. facing 12 being interposed. The coupling is pressed by an adjustable helical spring 10, Belleville washer, or elastic or other fluid-pressure piston. The coupling is enclosed in a cap 14 screwed on the pinion S. The pinion may be keyed to a shaft-section frictionally coupled to a driving-section. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the application of the invention to other agricultural machines, such as straw and chaff cutters, and to machines and pars of machines in general. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
