Sheet-carriers; sheetregistering devices; grippers and gripper mechanism.- Metal sheets are fed to printing-machines by reciprocating grippers 9, 10, attached to a carriage 3 formed of two side plates connected bv cross members 12 to which a fixed member 11 carrying the gripper supports 10 is secured. The pivoted member 9 is held in the open position, Fig. 2, by means of a locking-device in the form of a spring-controlled finger 17 engaging a projection 18 on an arm 19 on the shaft 13 of the gripper. The catch 17 thus holds the grippers open until they move back over a sheet positioned by hand on a support in register with a stop 6. The upper part 11 of the member 10 is tapered and causes the front end of the sheet, even if this is slightly arched, to move correctly over the supports 10, and the gripper 9 closes on the sheet under spring action by operating the clutch 17 by means of a iixed stop 24. The carriage is then advanced by cam-and-lever mechanism 4, 5, which gives the carriage a dwell at the sheet receiving and delivery positions, and also just before reaching the delivery position from which it is taken by the grippers 8 of the impression cylinder 2. The sheet is detached from the grippers 9, 10 by the aid of a stripper which is on a lever-shaft operated by a fixed stop 27. This stripper may be mounted on the shaft of the front stops 29, or the front stops may act as strippers. The sheets when detached from the grippers 9, 10, may be pushed from supports 7 into contact with the stops 29 by means of pushers and may be acted on by side-registering pushers. The stops 6, 29 may be interconnected by lever mechanism, so that the stop 6 is controlled by movement of the stop 29.
