Tension arrangements; spindle-apparatus; stopmotions.-In a thread-winding machine each thread S, Fig. 1, to tensioned by an element adapted to be moved by centrifugal force radially outwardly into engagement therewith. Each thread passes from a bobbin G through the tension device N, Fig. 3, and through a pig-tail guide J to the work. The plate members E, H, L, rotate as a unit and in so doing causes balls n<9> in the devices N to move outwardly to press the threads against the concave surfaces n<8>, whereby the threads are tensioned and the guides J lifted. On breakage of any thread its guide J drops and the plunger K contacts with the control lever P to stop the machine.
