Hooks, spring. - Lifting hooks designed in connection with lifting operations in oil wells and of the kind in which the yoke c is trunnioned at b to a hollow crosshead B to which the hook A is connected so as to move vertically against the resistance of a spring as well as to rotate about an antifriction bearing E are provided with swivel bolts D placed in the hollow hook stems A', the spring F being confined between a nut d<1> on the bolt and a shoulder a on the stem A<1> The head d of the bolt may be locked relatively to the cross-head B by means of a stud b' which passes through a cover b<3> secured by screws b<4>. The mouth of the hook is locked by a hinged safety-catch G having a spring-controlled plunger which in the locking position engages with a recess a<3> in the mouth of the hook.
