288,358. Wylam, B., Harris, J. E. G., Thomas, J., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1926. Dye preparations.-Substantially dry powders of dyestuffs and dyestuff derivatives, including leuco compounds and their salts and including derivatives of vat dyestuffs which can be employed for dyeing without vatting, e.g. the vat dyestuff derivatives described in Specifications 186,057, 202,630, 202,632; 203,681, 212,546, 218,649 and 220,964, [all in Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], 231,889, 245,587, 247,787, 248,802, 251,491, 258,626, 260,638, 260,647, and 261,139 are made by adding to the wet paste of the dyestuff or derivative, a substance capable of combining with the water present to form a solid crystalline or other hydrated compound containing water of crystallization or hydration, and preferably yielding an alkaline or neutral product. Anhydrous sodium carbonate is particularly suitable as the addition product, especially with the vat dyestuff derivatives referred to; it is preferably added in quantities such that the heptahydrate is formed. Addition substances capable of acting as buffer agents against acids, e.g. disodium hydrogen phosphate or fused sodium acetate may also be used, as well as neutral substances such as sodium sulphate. In examples (1) a paste obtained by adding salt to an alkaline extract of the flavanthrone derivative made by the process of example 11 of Specification 247,787 is mixed with sufficient anhvdrous sodium carbonate to yield the heptahydrate, or with anhydrous disodium hydrogen phosphate, fused sodium acetate or sodium sulphate, (2) a paste of dichlorisodibenzanthrone is converted into a dry powder by mixing with anhydrous sodium carbonate, and (3) a paste of 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone is mixed with anhydrous sodium sulphate; the product may be used as a direct dye for acetate silk. The paste of the sodium salt of the disulphuric ester of leucoindigo may also be converted into a, dry powder by means of sodium carbonate.
