Abstract

Insulators. - A supporting, or strain, pin is secured in an electric insulator by spreading a barrel sleeve carried on the pin into a cavity formed with a restricted throat in the insulator. A dumb-bell pin K with a copper sleeve H is placed in the cavity of an insulator J, and a twopart tubular tool D is then abutted to the edge of the sleeve H, Fig. 1. Tongs M draw down the pin to buckle the sleeve to the form shown in Fig. 2, the lower edge of the sLeeve H being preferably engaged in a groove R in the pin K. Lead filling is then cast in the insulator cavity. Grooves A<1> in the insulator J and flats A<2> on the pin K prevent relative rotation of the parts with respect to the filling. In a modified construction for the cementless fixing of supporting pins, the sleeve may be cylindrical or barrel-shaped and formed with weakening grooves to facilitate buckling.
