Abstract

Indiarubber and like springs.-A pneumatic cushioning device of general application, shown embodied in a wheel tyre, comprises elements of cylindrical, spherical, or other form having graduated degrees of resilience internally in the unloaded state. The graded resilience is obtained by means of non-communicating cells which (1) may be of different internal pressures, (2) may be of different sizes, or (3) may have different wall-thicknesses, or by combinations of these features. In the tyre shown, a cellular rubber &c. cushion 6 of the above-stated character, and fitted in a sleeve 7, is arranged between the airtube 12 and the outer cover 5. The base portion of the cushion, having fabric reinforcements 11, 13, 14, is shaped to fit the re-entrant tread side of the air-tube, the dotted line representing the non-inflated form of the latter. The air-tube has two walls 15, 16 enclosing a layer 17 of adhesive vulcanized rubber which becomes compressed on inflation of the tube to form a self-sealing puncture-closing layer. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 211,795.
