Thread guides; tension arrangements. - The reciprocating thread guide of an artificial silk spinning apparatus is associated with one or more rods or prongs rigidly connected to the guide and arranged so as to tension the thread, for which purpose the rods are arranged so as to cause the thread to make one or more changes in direction during passage therethrough. Thus, the usual guide-eye a, Fig. 2 may be associated with a number of rods b of polygonal, circular or other cross-section, and situated either in one plane or different planes; and as shown in Fig. 5, there may be used seven rods b, these being removably mounted in the holder c so that by removing one or more of the rods the tension may be controlled. Or the guide-eye a, Fig. 8 may be placed between the arms e, e<1>of the fork over one or the other arms of which the thread is passed to that winding bobbin on which the thread is being wound, the thead in this form passing first through the guide-eye. The ends of the rods may be bent laterally or downwards in order to facilitate draining of the acid stripped from the threads. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to two other constructions. The first comprises a saddle d, Fig. 9 (cancelled), provided with projections f through which the thread is led, eventually leaving by one or other of the grooves e<3>, e<4>; in this construction, the projections may be removable for the purpose of controlling the tension. In the second, the thread is passed over a fork k, Figs. 10, 11 (cancelled), the amount of tension in this case being determined by the position of the fork, for example, it may be placed in the alternate positions indicated in these figures. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
