Abstract

287,538. Plastic, Inc., (Assignees of Kennedy, A. L.). March 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Pulp, adding special substances to; electric insultating paper.-In a process of making paper which is resistant to electricity, heat &c., a fibre pulp is incorporated with a kelp product com-- prising alginic acid and is formed into a paper web. The kelp is preferably solubilized e.g. by digestion with caustic soda or other alkali and is precipitated after admixture with the fibre pulp' bv a solution of a metallic salt such as zinc sulphate or calcium acetate. Alternatively lime or a mineral acid may be used. If desired a binder such as rubber and an inert filler may be added prior to precipitation. The proportions of the constituents used in two examples are given.
