Abstract
261,051. Spence & Sons, Ltd., P., Llewellyn, W. B., and Crundall, S. F. W. May 8, 1925. Pigments.-A composite product suitable for use as a pigment comprises a titanium phosphate of the composition 3TiO2.P2O5.6H2O precipitated from a titanic salt solution in presence of an insoluble substance such as calcium or barium sulphate, which may be added as such or precipitated in the titanic salt solution. The precipitation of the phosphate is effected by adding the necessary amount of phosphoric acid or a phosphate, at a temperature not less than 50‹ C., to a solution of a titanic salt, such as chloride or sulphate, of a concentration not greater than that corresponding to 10 per cent of TiO2. The presence of free acid is desirable to keep impurities such as iron in solution, and the presence of chlorides, such as sodium chloride or hydrochloric acid, is beneficial to the form of the precipitate. The reagents may be mixed gradually in either order. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 195,181 and 206,284.
