Abstract

Optical apparatus.- A slit block for use in the reproduction of talking pictures or sound record films is constructed to provide for clearing the slit of dust &c. and to clean the film by the movement of the film. Fig. 1 shows a block 1 with a light slit or aperture 2 and two or more inclined grooves 7, 8 m its surface against which the film passes. Dust, &c. from the film accumulates in the grooves 7, 8 and is delivered therefrom at the sides of the block by the movement of the film. Similarly, dust, &c. in the aperture 2 is directed by a V-channel 6 in the block to an inclined groove or grooves. The aperture 2 may be fitted with a narrower slit device comprising segments 10, 11, Fig. 2, spaced apart to provide a slit 4 and fitted in a transverse recess 3, Fig. 1, across the aperture 2. A transparent cover 5 overlies the slit 4, and lies just clear of the surface of the block 1.
