Cleaning externally.-A double-acting compressor transmits alternate pressure and rarefaction from each end through pipes i and branches i<1> to a motor cylinder h the piston of which actuates a lever hammer b to strike and remove accumulated dust from electrodes a of dust precipitation plant. The junctions of the mains and branches are provided with rotary valves by which any pair of branch pipes may be connected with the mains, or all may be cut off and the air surge idly. The force of the blow may be regulated by an adjustable bypass, Fig. 4, adapted to connect the ends of the compressor cylinder through valves u carried flexibly from the stem of a piston o under pressure of a spring adjusted by a screwed abutment s. According to the Provisional Specification, other apparatus may be operated by the pneumatic transmission. Specification 12435/87, [Class 85, Mining &c.], is referred to.
