226,384. Dehn, F. B., (Non-Exhaust Compressed Air Machinery Co.). Jan. 21, 1924. Percussive drills.-The front and rear ends a, b of the hammer cylinder of a pneumatic tool are connected by separate pipes I, H, with the rear and front ends e, d respectively of a pulsating cylinder D provided with a piston E reciprocated by any suitable means, such as a direct-acting two-stroke internal-combustion motor U with a fly-wheel z<3>. Leakage of air from the system is made up by means of a valve M opening to the chamber e and by an adjustable passage p, adapted, near the end of the piston stroke, to connect the space d with the pipe I. Cushioning in the chamber a, and therefore the force of the blow, is varied by means of a handoperated valve j<1>, adapted to close more or less the port j, and at the same time to release air under pressure through ports i<1>, which air acts to blow away dust. The relative sizes of the two cylinders are as indicated in Fig. 1.
