Abstract

450,778. Borehole apparatus. MULLER, F., 170, Lainzerstrasse, Vienna. March 6, 1935, No. 7084. Convention date, March 6, 1934. [Class 85] [See also Groups XXII and XXIII] In connecting and disconnecting screw joints in deep-boring appliances, two torques acting in the same direction are applied, one torque being approximately constant and the other being applied by the blows of a hammer actuated by steam, air or gas. In Fig. 2, a spanner 15 is connected to a pneumatic hammer 16 to which a pull is applied by handles 17 or a rope connected to an eye 18 ; simultaneously through lever 19 and link 20 the hammer may be started. The hammer may be arranged adjustably or fixed at any desired point on the handle of the spanner. In Figs. 4 and 5, a chain wrench with hammers 66-69 has a slotted and recessed handle 70 engaged by the rod 72 of a piston 74 working in a cylinder 73 connected by universal joint 75 to the draw-works and provided with a counterweight 76 to swing the cylinder to vertical position when inoperative. A valve 77 controls supply to the hammers 66-69 and also to the cylinder 73 to turn the wrench ; at a given pressure, the piston 74 yields against adjustable spring 79 to open ports 80 and admit fluid through the rod 72 to reciprocate a hammer cylinder 85 against a second piston 84 on the rod. A spring 86 returns the hammer cylinder to initial position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that spring or electromagnetic hammers may be used. Further, a spanner may have in its' head a pneumatic hammer 1, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), pressed by a spring against the work 3 ; hand or power means for turning the spanner may also act through lever 6 and link 5 to start the hammer. In a chain wrench, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), hammers 52-54 act directly on the pipe 51 and are connected by supply pipes 55-58 passing through the pivots of the chain ; the hammers may be inclined to the radius of the pipe to give a turning effect. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
