Abstract

285,980. Barber, W. E. Nov. 24, 1926. Condensers comprise a case for the conducting plates, in which is screwed a cover to hold the plates securely in position. A cylindrical or otherwiseshaped casing 1 is threaded to receive a cover 2 and formed with two pairs of recesses 4, 5. The electrodes comprise strips 6, 8, each folded back on itself a number of times and connected to a terminal 7, 10. The strips 6, 8 are arranged to extend into, and be located by, the recesses 4, 5 respectively and to interleave one another with suitable circular mica discs 9 interposed. A screw 11 enables the condenser to be fixed to a panel, and to prevent tearing of the strips in assembling, a stiff metal plate is placed over the top condenser plate. The recesses in the side of the casing may be filled with paraffin wax, and the ends of the strips themselves may form the terminals. In a modification, stiff metal plates extend into the recesses, one for each electrode, and each plate has a terminal lug extending through a slot in the side of the casing at the recess.
