Abstract

285,893. Hirsch, Kupfer-und Messing- werke Akt.-Ges., and Tama, M. Feb. 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Charging.-In a furnace for heating tubes, rods, and the like, an arm charging-machine is arranged to feed the tubes &c. through an opening in a side wall of the furnace. As shown, the tubes 5 are placed transversely on the projecting arms 7 of the charging-machine 6 which carries mechanism, operated by a handle 9, for lowering the arms 7 into transverse grooves 4 in the furnace sole 2, after which the machine is withdrawn on rails 11 leaving the tubes 5 resting directly on the sole 2. On completion of the heating operation the machine is again run into the furnace and the tubes 5 removed after the arms 7 have been raised to lift them off the sole 2. Over the track 11 is arranged a framework 13, Fig. 3, having two sets of projecting arms 14, 15 carried by a bar 12 which is movable vertically by means of a windlass 16 and ropes 17, 18. Cold tubes 5<1> are laid across the arms 14 and the bar 12 is lowered so that the machine 6 carrying the finished charge 5 may be run into position with its arms 7 between the arms 14, 15. The bar 12 is now raised so that the tubes 5 are transferred to the arms 15, after which the machine 6 is withdrawn and the bar 12 lowered to the same position as before. On the machine 6 being again run into position, the bar 12 is lowered further to deposit the fresh tubes 5<1> on the arms 7 ready for feeding into the furnace. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 291,153.
