Abstract

Charging.-In an apparatus for charging open. hearth and like furnaces, two runner blocks d, f, which can be connected by reds or chains to an overhead support e and to the floor or staging in front of the furnace respectively, are mounted on the charging-pan bar a. In operating the device, the connexion between the block f and the floor is made after the pan c has been brought up to the furnace mouth. The bar can then be operated and the charge deposited at the required position without overbalancing. Ball-bearing rings may be used instead of runner blocks, and the bar a may be telescopic.
