Abstract

1290600 Open hearth furnaces GIUSEPPE & FRATELLO REDAELLI SpA 8 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 22417/70 Heading F4B An open hearth furnace includes a fixed lower portion 1 and removable upper portions 2, 3, the latter portions forming the firebrick furnace roof and the upper part of the furnace end walls. These walls contain apertures( not shown) for burners (not shown) movable with the upper portions. The portions 2, 3 are supported from suspension lattices 8, 9 provided with wheels 10 which run along slide rails 11 carried by a supporting structure 12. To remove the portions 2, 3, sets of wedges 13 are moved forwards by ram and chain mechanism 16, 17, thereby lifting the rails and their associated idler wheels 15 relative to supporting structure 12, and so lifting the portions 2, 3. Abutments 18 prevent horizontal displacement of the rails. The portions 2, 3 may then be separated by the simultaneous or sequential movement of their suspension lattices 8, 9 along rails 11 under the influence of motor driven chains 20. In a modification (not shown) a single movable upper portion may cover the whole of the furnace. Charging is effected through the uncovered top and through the usual doors 4.
