Abstract
1355616 Walking beam furnaces STEIN ATKINSON STORDY Ltd 17 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 17638/72 Heading F4B A walking beam furnace in which sets of fixed beams 4 and movable beams 5 carried by vertical posts 6 and 7 provide the conventional conveying motion has a set of ramps 13 with flats A, B & C separated by inclined sections, a fluid motor 10 driving a beam support 8 horizontally, said beam support 8 carrying a water seal trough (18, Fig. 2) into which depend seal plates 19 attached to the furnace bottom, and a fluid motor 14 driving a wheel support 11 over the upper inclined sections of the ramps to provide the vertical motion of the beams, the lower inclined sections providing means for lowering the beams 5 and trough (18) into a maintenance position. The wheel support 11 carries wheels 12 engaging the beam support 8 and wheels 15 engaging the ramps 13. Another fluid motor (20, Figs. 4 and 5) detachably and pivotally secured to the wheel support 11 enables its movement to the maintenance position. In this position the plates19 are clear of the trough (18). In a modification (Figs. 6 and 7) the third fluid motor (24) is pivotally secured to a slide carrying the motor 14.
