Abstract
1,251,168. Cooling furnace walls. A. E. ANDERSON CONSTRUCTION CORP. 17 Sept., 1970 [29 Sept., 1969], No. 44465/70. Heading F4B. The bosch and hearth portions 15c, 15a of a blast furnace shell are cooled by thin films of water descending from annular distribution chambers 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, rubber sealing strips 35, 35<SP>1</SP> which are adjustably secured to weir forming members 30, 30<SP>1</SP> in the chambers, resiliently contacting the shell such that the thin films of water flowing over the weirs are kept in contact with the furnace shell. The weirs 30, 30<SP>1</SP> which are themselves adjustably secured to the bottom wall members 21, 21<SP>1</SP> of the chambers (see Fig. 3, not shown), may be inclined as shown, or vertical, whilst the sealing strips may lie parallel with the weirs or be horizontally disposed. Preferably the chambers, weirs and sealing strips are each formed from a plurality of sections joined end to end. Troughs 40, 40<SP>1</SP> for collecting the water films are provided.
