285,565. Smith, W. S., Garnett, H. J., and Holden, J. A. Nov. 17, 1926. Alloys.-High-resistance alloys consist of 70-80 per cent. of nickel, 15-25 per cent. of chromium, and 2-7 per cent. cobalt. Up to 10 per cent. of iron may be present, about half of which is at the expense of the chromium and the remainder at the expense of the nickel. For wire, tape, or ribbon, carbon is absent, but for casings, rods, or forgings, 0.1-0.2 per cent. of carbon may be present. Traces of a deoxidizer such as magnesium or cadmium are preferably added. According to the Provisional specification, the alloys may contain 68-83 per cent. of nickel, 15-25 per cent. of chromium, and 2-15 per cent. of cobalt.
