Abstract
285,446. Schaffer & Budenberg Ges., (Assignees of Fischbach, R.). Feb. 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Wedging or jamming.-Relates to a stop valve having a rotatable full-way passage body 19, Figs. 1 and 2, which aligns with the inlet and outlet passages in the open position, and carries at right-angles to the passage axis closure discs or cones 17 which, after rotation of the passage body 19 to the aligned closing position, are forced by levers 11 against seatings on the inlet and outlet passages. The levers 11 are pivoted at 26 on the passage body 19 and engage at their lower ends auxiliary closure discs 14 which first close and then force the main closure discs 12 on to their seatings. With large valves pivoted supporting struts 12 resting on the body 19 are provided; with small valves these and the auxiliary discs 14 are dispensed with. The upper ends of the levers 11 have pins 25 operated upon by the lower end of a flattened guiding member 4 on the spindle 4. The guiding member pases through a guide plate 10, having an aperture in the form of a circle with side slots at diametral positions, these slots being engaged by upper side extensions on the guide member 4, which prevent the rotation of the passage body when near the closing position. In the opening movement the rotation of the nut member 5 first lifts the spindle 4 and guide member 4, thus causing the levers 11 to release the closure discs from the seatings, and ,also releasing the guide member from the guide plate 10 as in Fig. 1; when the end 28 of the spindle strikes the nut 5 the spindle and nut are coupled together, as by a clutch, and further rotation thereof rotates the whole valve structure until the body passage aligns with the inlet and outlet passages. This action is brought about by a clutch plate 32, which is raised into engagement at 35 with the nut member, and rolLers 8 thereon moved into inclined slots 33. In the reverse closing movement, therefore, the slots 33 ensure that 'the valve structure shall be first rotated to the closing position with the side projections on the guide member 4 in register with the side slots in the guide plate 10 ; further rotation is then arrested by vertical slots 34, the clutch plate 32 being released from the nut 5 so that the guide member 4 is moved downwards to effect the final pressing of the closure discs on to their seatings. To facilitate assembly the body 19 is divided into two parts on a central plane at rightangles to the axis of the passage, as shown in Fig. 2.
