Abstract

285,433. Frager, L. C. Feb. 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Races, indicating &c. apparatus for.-An apparatus for recording the times at which moving objects pass a given line comprises a photo-electric cell in an electric circuit, the current variations of which, due to the interception of a beam of light by ihe object acting on the cell, are utilized to actuate the recording device. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the light beam from a luminous source 1 passes through a perforated rotating wheel 2 and lenses 3, 4, to a photo-electric cell 5. The wheel 2 is for the purpose of varying the luminous intensity periodically. The cell 5 has a ring-shaped cathode 9 and a blob of metal 10 sensitive to the light radiations connected to a battery 8 through the primary 7 of a transformer, the secondary 12 of which is connected to the amplifying circuit as shown, the last valve acting as a detector and its plate circuit being connected to a relay 17. The relay 17 has two windings the second winding being connected to a potentiometer 16 so as to compensate for the steady plate current. By this means the relay comes into action only when the beam of light is intercepted by an object whereupon the contacts 22 are closed and the recording device 23 is actuated to mark a constant speed record-drum 24.
