Packeting by wrapping-up.-In a machine in which a batch of cigarettes &c. is enveloped in a wrapper automatically formed into a U-shaped block ended container, the open end of which is closed by two side tucks and two broad end-flaps automatically folded one upon the other, the wrapper is automatically severed from a web of material by cutting or stamping mechanism which forms a tongue at one end of each wrapper and a corresponding cut-away portion at the other end. Rolls 15, 16 draw continuously a web of thin transparent paper 6 from a reel 5 past rolls 18, 19 provided. the one with a semi-circular groove 20 and the other a similarly shaped cutter 21 adapted to make a semi-circular incision or series of perforations across the centre portion of the material. A rotary cutter 23 then co-operates with a fixed blade 25 to make transverse cuts across the material from the ends of the curved cut to the edges of the material. If desired, the circular and straight cuts may be made simultaneously. The wrappers are fed in front of a batch of cigarettes &c. fed along a table 7 by pushers mounted on an endless conveyer also adapted to feed the wrapper and cigarettes to folding, gumming and stacking mechanisms.
