Abstract

Differential or balance gearing. - Relates to wheel drives intended to replace the differential gear on motor vehicles and permit of a difference of about one revolution in the number of revolutions made by the driving wheels in rounding curves, and of the kind in which the wheels are driven by a single tappet 6 on the driving member 3, engaging lugs 7<1>, 7<11> on the inner ends of the divided wheel axles 1, 1<11>. According to the invention, the driving connection between the tappet 6 and the lugs 7<1>, 7<11> is maintained by a yielding stop such as 11, Fig. 3, which retards the beginning of the free-wheeling until the wheel resistance is sufficient to overccme the stop. Fig. 4 shows pivoted latches 12<1>, 12<11> which are spring-pressed against stops 14<1>, 14" adapted to rest upon the lugs 7", 7<1>. The arrangement is such that, when one lug 7' moves away from the driving tappet 6, a latch 12" is lowered to prevent the other lug 7<11> moving away from the tappet and vict versa.
