Abstract
284,666. Manson,T. M., and Ward, C. H. Feb. 3, 1927, [Convention date]. Fixed-chamber apparatus. - The measuring- chamber is drained by means of a siphon when a valve at the top of the siphon is closed and air pressure is set up in the chamber. The siphon consists of an outer pipe 13 and an open-ended inner pipe 9 spaced apart and held by a casing 11 containing a cylindrical valve 21 rotatable by a hand-lever 30 through a spindle 28. The height at which overflow from the chamber commences may be adjusted by a screwed bolt 37 the head of which is held by the casing cover 34. An air valve 14 permits ingress of air when the chamber is discharging but closes when pressure in the chamber exceeds atmospheric. To drain the chamber the valve 21 is shut and the supply pump 33 operated to cause pneumatic pressure, in the chamber with the result that the siphon is started and the chamber consequently drained.
