Abstract

Instantaneous generators. -Water is sprayed into one end of longitudinal passages in a heated thick-walled tubular element 3, Figs. 1, 8, the passages 16 communicating at the other end with relatively narrow longitudinal passages 17 through which the steam generated flows to a collector 5. The element is arranged in a brickwork setting, and the heating gases after passing through the element are directed along its lower and upper surfaces by partition walls 8. The spraying nozzles 10, Fig. 2, are held in apertures in a cover 4 bolted on the front of the element. The cover is formed with deep annular grooves 13 which place the ends of the narrow passages in the element in communication with the steam collector. The annular grooves are connected to the collector by radial passages. The back cover 19, Fig. 5, is formed with wide recesses 21 placing the passages 16, 17 in the element in communication with one another. The ends of the passages 16 may be closed by plugs 22.
