Abstract

284,026. Fitzpatrick, H. D., (U.S. Slicing Machine Co.). Oct. 23, 1926. Cutting slices in succession.-In a slicing- machine, the slice receiver comprises a slicereceiving member, a slice-retaining abutment extending around said member, means for continuously rotating the said member and for moving it vertically within the abutment. As shown in Fig. 1, a pulley 18, rotated continuously from the shaft 13 through bevel gearing, is connected by a pin 19 to the bevel wheel 16 and rotates on a stationary shaft 15. An upright rim abutment 20, secured to the pulley 18, is provided with a vertical key which slidably engages a notch in a slice-receiving plate or member 21 which is thereby constrained to rotate wth the rim 20. The plate 21 carries a sleeve 24 having a spring-pressed lever 27 carrying a nut block 26 which engages a screw 25 on the shaft 15. The plate 21 is lowered as it rotates until the nut block 26 reaches a plain portion of the shaft 15. The slice deflector 30 crosses the top edge of the rim to direct the slices broadside down to the plate 21. A skin support 31<1> is supported on a bracket 32 and extends on both sides of the cutting edge of the knife, and the lower edge of the slice defector has a projecting lug which receives the lower edges of the slices as they pass from the support 31<1>. The speed of rotation of the receiver may be so arranged that the slices are deposited in any desired number of stacks, or in overlapping formation similar to that described in Specification 214,908.
