283,850. Jorgensen, E. H. H. Jan. 17. 1927, [Convention date]. Locks for valves. - Actuating and locking means for valves and cocks comprises a rotary lock bolt or tumbler plate 11 disposed on the valve spindle 6 and having fingers 13 which are held in engagement with recesses 14 in the casing cover 3 by a spring 16. The valve spindle comprises two cylindrical portions 6, 9 separated by a recessed part 8, the cylindrical portions being each formed with a flat part 7, 10 in displaced relation. The tubular key handle 4 is formed with an inwardly projecting flat portion 17 which first passes the upper flat part 10 of the spindle and after a partial rotation in the recess 8, slides down the flat part 7 into the position shown. For opening the valve the key is first depressed to disengage the tumbler plate 11 from the casing part whereupon the key and spindle can be rotated to open the valve. In this position an inturned projection on the key handle engages under the flange 20 on the casing so that in the opened position the key handle cannot be removed. To prevent the lifting of the plug when removing the key a portion 21 of the casing is bent over a conical portion of the plug, or a screw is substituted for the part 21.
