Thermionic amplifiers.-In a thermionic amplifier for handling frequencies of the order of 30 megacycles, corresponding to a wavelength of 10 metres, the input and output circuits 8, 9 and 10, 11 consist of telescopic conductors, which are adjusted to resonance by varying their overall length. As shown in Fig. 1, a high-frequency source 0 is coupled to a closed input circuit 8, 9, the output 10, 11 consisting of two open-ended telescopic conductors forming a radiating system. Both input and output circuits may be open or closed, the effective length for resonance varying from one-fourth to one-half the operative wavelength. The output from the amplifier 4 may be coupled to a second amplifier, as shown in Fig. 3.
