Abstract

282,762. Maatschappij tot Vervaardiging van Snijmachines Volgens van Berkel's Patent en van Andere Werktuigen. Dec. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Cutting slices in succession. -In a slicing-machine having independent driving mechanisms operated respectively by an electric or other motor and by hand, a free-wheel coupling is interposed in the motordriving mechanism so that, when the machine is manually operated, the motor shaft is not rotated. As shown in Fig. 2, a motor 7 is mounted on the knife-supporting bracket 4 and a pulley 9 is coupled by a belt 10 with a pulley on the knife. The carriage is operated in the usual manner by a crank and connecting-rod, and the carriagedriving mechanism and the usual hand-wheel are connected to the knife through the usual chain and sprockets. The free-wheel is in the form of a ball or roller clutch within the pulley 9, a starshaped member 19 being keyed to the motor shaft 8, the pulley 9 encircling it. The balls or rollers 20 become wedged in the tapered recesses 21 when the motor shaft is revolving anti-clockwise, but, when the manual drive is used, the pulley 9 revolves in the same direction, releasing the balls and leaving the motor stationary. An automatic cut-out mechanism of known construction may be incorporated in the hand-driving mechanism, so that the hand-wheel will not rotate when the motor is used.
