Abstract
281,436. Tranter, W. J. Oct. 15, 1926. Blow-down apparatus comprises a pipe or pipes which may be in two or more seetions a, b, having at intervals a number of downwardly directed bell mouths q disposed e.g. # to 3/16 of an inch from the boiler plates by supports d. The fore end of the pipe is connected to a bend e which leads to the blow-off valve f, a st.av g with a slidable cross member being provided between the boiler flues. Two further pipe sections o branch off from a bend m on each side of the gusset plate p. A scum collector funnel r facing the front of the boiler at the water lead is connected by a down pipe s with the system. The pipes may be attached by clips to the gusset plates or to cleats riveted to the shell or suspended by means such as turnbuckles between the heating tubes.
