Recording by co-ordinates; recording particular operations.-An apparatus whereby the use of a motor vehicle may be ascertained, comprises a clock-driven record disc and pivoted making arms projecting inwards from the outer edge of the disc for recording the speed, the load on the car, the use of the steering-wheel, and the operations of the direction-indicators, signal horn, and brake. As shown, a casing o containing the clock-driven dial m marked with radial hour lines is mounted on a bracket s attached to the vehicle, and the recording pen arms are arranged to lie on a single hour line. The speed recording-arm b is operated by a solenoid a, the excitation oi which is effected by a dynamo coupled to one of the vehicle wheels. The infringements of the speed limit are signalled by means of a lamp k, the circuit of which is completed when the arm b contacts with a spring arm j. The load recording-arm d is operated by a hydraulic or pneumatic device c connected by a conduit to one or more pressure devices mounted near the rear axle of the vehicle. The use of the steering-wheel is recorded by an arm g operated by electromagnets electrically connected with contact segments associated with the steering wheel. The operations of the direction-indicators, the signal horn, and the brake are recorded by arms i, e, and f respectively, through the medium of electric contacts and electromagnets. The connecting terminals p for the various electric circuits are mounted on the base of the casing. If the casing is arranged outside the car the side lights R or RR may also be mounted on the casing.
