Abstract

279,749. Tomiska, A. Aug. 5, 1926. Breech action, drop-down barrel; trigger guards.-Cylindrical hammers, and sears moving perpendicularly thereto, are guided rectilinearly in a lock body adjoining the breech body. Safety mechanism for locking the sears is provided. As shown, the lock body of an under-and-over gun comprises a block 13 mounted in a recess in the middle portion of the breech body, and contains sliding hammers 14 and vertically sliding sears 25. The block is carried by a bottom plate 39 to the rear of which the trigger guard 37 is hinged. At the rear the plate 39 is secured to the stock by a sliding catch 41 on the plate engaging a plate 42 fixed in the stock. The catch is operated by the trigger guard, being moved to the engaging position when the trigger guard is raised. At the front, the plate is secured by the front end of the trigger guard which itself is secured by the catch 38 of the locking spindle 8. A safety device for locking the sears comprises a lever 30 pivoted on the trigger pivot 32 and having arms 33 projecting through openings in the rear of the lock body into the paths of the sears. The top of the safety lever 30 is flexibly connected to a top slide 29 which is pushed back by a bolt 28 when the locking spindle is turned to unlock the breech. The hammers are cocked by a spring- pressed slide 17, Fig. 2, mounted in a groove in the side of the lock body and pressed back by a rod when the gun is opened. The invention may be applied to a single-barrelled gun.
