Abstract

278,868. Roberts, Ltd., F., Roberts, F., and Barford, H. H. Sept. 18, 1926. Blocking. - A contractable crown block comprises end sections 8 and side sections 5 slidably movable between a top block and a plate 3 fixedly spaced apart therefrom, an operating shaft 9 rotatably mounted in the top block and plate, links 12 connecting the end sections with crossbars 11 fixed to the shaft, and a spring or springs connecting the side sections together. Preferably, the sections are guided by pins 6 engaging slots 7. The shaft 9 has a handle 10 by which it is turned to expand or contract the block. The edges of the sections are bevelled, as at 16, Fig. 6, so that as the end sections 8 move outwards the side sections 5 are pushed outwards against the pull of the springs. Two opposite sections, are formed with a box casting 17 for steam heating, the two castings being connected by a flexible pipe 18 and provided with inlet and outlet pipes. The block is used with hats having a larger crown than head size.
