Abstract

278,651. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Oct. 8, 1926, [Convention date]. Dibenzanthrones dyes are obtained from the nitrobenzanthrone described in Example 2 of Specification 12518/06 by exchanging the nitro group for an alkyloxy group by the successive steps of reducing, diazotizing. boiling, and alkylating, and treating the products with alkaline condensing-agents. According to an example the aminobenzanthrone obtained by reducing the said nitro compound is diazotized with nitrosyl-sulphuric acid, and the solution diluted and boiled; the oxy compound is purified by solution in alkali and methylated by means of toluenesulphonic methyl ester in trichlorbenzene ; the methoxybenzanthrone is fused with alcoholic potash, the product being a green vat dyestuff having the same properties as that described in Example 2 of Specification 181,304 and Example 1 of Specification 218,255.
