Overhead sewing - machines; presser wheels.-The presser-wheel 12 of an overhead sewing-machine is stressed by a spring, the tension of which may be instantly varied by definite amounts at the will of the operator by the movement of a cam. The lever 13, 14 on which the presser-wheel is mounted is stressed by a spring 18, the upper end of which abuts against a collar 19 on a pin 20. A pin 23 bearing on the head of the pin 20 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 22 and may be depressed against the action of the spring by the manual movement of a cam-lever 24 having surfaces 26<a> - - 26d, any one of which may be brought into position to bear against the pin. The screwed mounting of the sleeve 22 in which the cam-lever is pivoted provides for fine adjustment of the spring. A treadle-operated lever 17 is provided for releasing the presserwheel from the work.
