Abstract

278,310. Morris Corporation, I. P. Oct. 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Seats.-A valve 4, Figs. 1 and 5, preferably of the pivotal disc type, is provided with an expansible tubular member 11 expanded by fluid pressure to effect a seal when the valve is closed, the tube being preferably disposd in a circular groove in the casing. The sealing tube may be circular, or of flat formation, and may be single, or in duplicate, each having one end sealed and the other end passing to the exterior of the valve casing for connection to a pressure device, as for example a pipe 18, Fig. 13, and elevated reservoir 20. A valve 23 is manipulated to supply a sealing pressure depending on the height of the reservoir. An exhaust pipe 21 to atmosphere controlled by a valve 22 is provided, the pipe 21 being of sufficient height to provide the necessary pressure to prevent collapse of the sealing tube in the open position of the valve.
