Abstract
278,062. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., Given, R. D., and Pool, W. J. June 23, 1926. Motors, controlling; alternating-current commutator machines.-Brush shifting gear used in a system for maintaining constant speed relation among a number of alternating- current motors, as in Specification 205,215, [Class 38 (iii) Electric motor control systems &c.], is provided with means brought into action by the stoppage of any motor for automatically moving its brushes to a position giving minimum speed for restarting, and thereafter for returning them to a normal running position. The Specification describes the mechanism for one motor of a system according to Specification 205,215, [Class 38 (iii), Electric motor control systems &c.]. When the working motor is switched off, a pilot motor 41 is automatically clutched to a spindle 8 in driving connection through chains and sprockets with the brush-shifting gear not shown. The brushes are thus carried to minimum speed position and stopped automatically at a point determined by the adjustment of a limit switch. When the working motor is restarted, a reversal of the foregoing procedure automatically brings the brushes back to the position which they occupied before the stoppage.
