Abstract
278,057. O'Brien, M. C. M. June 21, 1926. Window guards; shutters.-A folding shutter consisting of hinged leaves is adapted to be interposed between a jeweller's window 2 and display shelves 3a when the window is broken or tampered with by thieves. The lowest leaf is attached to the bottom 5 of the container 2 and is supported by rods 8, cross-bar 22 and pivoted catches 25 against the pull of the spring 28. The catch 25 may be released by the pressure-actuated device 23 as described in Specification 262,571, and preferably the change of pressure is effected by breakage of a diaphragm 21, Fig. 5, which closes a spring-pressed tube 14 pneumatically connected to the device 23 and adapted to be fractured by the interposed rod 19 when the window 20 is broken or struck violently. A piston-actuated releasing device as described in Specification 231,851, [Class 44, Fastenings, Lock &c.], may also be used to release the catch 25, a port or valve of the piston-controlling system being opened by tampering with the window. The protruding ends of the hinge-pins 6, 6<a> of the shutter leaves are guided on opposite sides of the post 7<a> to facilitate raising. When lowered, the shutter is retained by the spring catch 29.
