Coal-cutting machines. -A coal-cutting machine of the bar type has the end 6 of the bar reduced to the base of the keyslots 5 by which the bar is connected to its driving gear 4, the part 6 reciprocating in a bush 7 which rotates in a ball or roller bearing such as a combined journal and thrust bearing 10, 11. In a modification, the reduced end 6 is keyed to a sleeve of the same diameter as the part 1 of the bar. The engaging parts of the bar and gear 4 may be polygonal.
