Abstract
276,788. Clayden, F. July 14, 1926. Moulding shoe trees.-Fillers D, Fig. 7, for use in displaying shoes are made hollow and moulded from a mixture of granulated cork, sawdust, wood pulp, or the like, and gum. Moulding boxes, Fig. 1, with a plaster of Paris or like copy B of a last are made in two halves hinged together. With the mould open, each half is covered with wet calico or linen, paper, leather, &c. A mixture of cork and glue &c. is then packed evenly on the cloth. The mould is then closed and sufficient mixture is then added through the open side to make joint where the halves meet, leaving the filler hollow. The filler can be easily removed and dried and mav be treated with cellulose or paint. In a modified method, instead of wet calico, two strips of dry calico which adhere to the filler are used. The meeting edges of the calico are trimmed on removal from the mould. A cardboard stiffener E may be inserted at the toe of the filler which is then ready for finishing.
