Mounting and supporting indicating-apparatus. -Comprises a mounting for an acoustic sounding apparatus for measuring distances in water or air by the echo method. A ball lens 18 on a spring 19 is arranged in front of a lamp 21 and the light passes through a lens 14 and is reflected in the form of a spot of light 16 from the mirror 12 on to a screen 17. The screen is made of a material powerfully dispersive of light, such as tracing paper, parchment, milky glass &c.. By unscrewing a cap in the front of the casing, the lamp 21 may be removed. The instrument is mounted on the board 30 by the supports 29 of the axle 6<1> of the cam and spring 25 is suspended from any of a series of holes in a bow-shaped member 31 fixed to the board. The instrument as a whole may tilt about the axis 6' for the observer to survey the whole range of the curved scale. A screen 33 with foldable supports 33<1> is fitted.. On a signal being emitted, a a shot fired, for instance, a spot of light travels rapidly up the scale. When the echo is received in another microphone the ball lens 18 receives a sudden movement which causes the spot of light to trace a transverse path 16<11> to the original path 16<1>.
