Abstract

276,573. Molloy, J. March 3, 1927. Alarms operated by expansion of liquids.-In a mercury contact thermometer 1, the contacts 2a, 3a are connected respectively to metal caps 2, 3 fitted to the ends of the thermometer and adapted for ready insertion in, or removal from. clip or like terminals 4, 5 in an alarm circuit including a battery 6 and bell, lamp, &c. 7. The thermometer and contacts thus constitute a unit which can be readily applied to the circuit. The contact 3<a> may be adjustable. In a modification, the mercury bulb 1<b> is in a position in the tube 1 somewhat removed from the cap 2. In other modifications, an air bulb is provided at the end of the tube remote from the mercury bulb, and one or both of the contacts is or are connected to a ring or rings instead of to the caps.
